Uttarakhand boasts a unique political landscape with six former Chief Ministers under the BJP banner. The challenge lies in the allocation of Lok Sabha tickets, particularly in Garhwal, where three former Chief Ministers vie for candidacy. The current MP from Pauri and former Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat is keen on retaining his seat. Simultaneously, the current MP from Haridwar and former Chief Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank stakes his claim. Additionally, former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat seeks a ticket from either Pauri or Haridwar. Social media activity suggests Trivendra Singh Rawat’s imminent candidacy, pending the official announcement. The presence of three former Chief Ministers complicates the finalization of candidates for the Haridwar and Pauri seats.

A Decade of Ticket Twists in Uttarakhand”
This isn’t the first time BJP has encountered such a scenario. In the 2014 elections, the party fielded three former Chief Ministers, including Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank from Haridwar, Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri from Pauri, and Bhagat Singh Koshyari from Nainital. In 2019, the party opted to cancel the tickets of two former Chief Ministers, Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri and Bhagat Singh Koshyari, while Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank secured the ticket for Haridwar. Between 2019-24, BJP designated Pauri’s sitting MP Tirath Singh Rawat and MLA Trivendra Singh Rawat as former Chief Ministers. In the current scenario, all three former Chief Ministers are vying for an MP ticket, posing a unique challenge for BJP in Uttarakhand.
